PERDIDA EN MANHATTAN

Nutcracker Inc. Video Trailer - Led Black Production

This documentary will feature the enigmatic and very underground elixir, also known as the “Nutcracker.” Its high demand and idolization is slowly but surely becoming a mini empire… kind of like a modern day Boardwalk Empire- but uptown style!

The film will explore the history of this infamous beverage, from obscurity to the rise of its popularity in Uptown New York, and its rapid growing popularity throughout the five boroughs.

Juan Bago & O - “Hooked On Hookah”

Here’s a preview to the much anticipated musical stylings of our favorite comedic crew: Juan Bago & O aka The Bago Bunch! If you’re an Uptownie or Youtube fan, you know what I’m talking about.

Sidenote: For a track that is meant to be funny, it sounds pretty dance worthy! Can’t wait to see the official music video set to premiere next week. Uptownies Unite!

WYNC Interview with Jon Michaud

Jon Michaud’s first novel, When Tito Loved Clara, follows the intersecting stories of its title characters: former high school lovers, both immigrants from the Dominican Republic who grew up in Inwood, or, as Michaud writes, “the forgotten part of Manhattan.”

In Michaud’s universe, there are no in-betweens. A person can succeed at changing his position, change one fate into another; or he can fail, and find himself living an existence that belongs more to the past than the present. Life will make some suffer while others prosper, but everyone will always end up wanting more.

Beastie Boys Photographer Dusts Off Decades-Old Photos for NYC Art Show

Last week Sunny Bak held the opening for her new show at the Ivy Brown Gallery on Hudson Street in Manhattan, about eight blocks from her old studio, where her friends the Beastie Boys filmed their video for “Fight For Your Right (To Party)” (add 876 Broadway to the walking tour). The show, Solid Gold Hits: A Tribute to the Beastie Boys, is a collaboration with Cey Adams, who did a lot of the band’s design and artwork, one of the first being the lettering that spelled out Beastie Boys on the album cover of the 1983 release Cooky Puss. The opening party for their show was held on May 3rd, and sadly, at 9 a.m. the next morningAdam “MCA” Yauch succumbed to the cancer he’d been battling for three years…

Ivy Brown Gallery is located at 675 Hudson Street, #4N. The show runs through June 21st.

“Death is a part of all our lives. Whether we like it or not, it is bound to happen. Instead of avoiding thinking about it, it is better to understand its meaning. We all have the same body, the same human flesh, and therefore we will all die… If from the beginning your attitude is ‘Yes, death is part of our lives,’ then it may be easier to face.” R.I.P.
