A Lupe Esparza, Rubén Albarrán, Adanowsky, Ali Gua Gua, Amandititita, Banda Agua Caliente, Sergio Arau, Mü, de la banda Bastön, Blue Demon, José Bautista, Antonio Carrillo, Juan Cirerol, Brozo, Ponchito, Los Cojolites, Rojo Córdova, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Jesús de la Cruz, Don Cheto, Lila Downs, La Original Banda El Limón, Laura Esquivel, Alejandro Fernández, Daniel Giménez Cacho, Nathaniel Gull, Padre Julián Pablo, Kinky, Natalia Lafourcade, Camilo Lara (IMS), León Larregui, Diego Luna, Pato Machete, Los Macuanos, Mare, Las Maya Internacional, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Meme del Real, El Haragán , María Moctezuma, Carla Morrison, Mono Blanco, Tito Fuentes, Randy Ebright, Francisco Ayala, Palichi, Elena Poniatowska, Yajvalel Vinajel, Residente Calle 13, Luis Rey Moreno Gil, Don José Ruiz, Don Miguel Ruiz, Roco y Moyenei, Alberto Ruz, Jesús Ramírez Bermúdez, Santiago Pando, Gloria Trevi, Slajem K’op, Los Tres Yucatecos, Chavela Vargas, El Venado Azul, Antonio Velasco Piña, Julieta Venegas, Juan Villoro.

"A face that escaped from that ancient fascination of silent film, where only the enormous eyes had something to say, fascinating play of the brushstrokes of her eyebrows, two dark bird’s wings concealed under the formidable forehead, imperceptible or wrathful quivering alone compensated for the deficiencies of the dialogue, issued almost regretfully from a fruity but always contemptuous mouth. A face of a dominatrix, a huntress, a carnivore…"

Campaign to open La Casa Azul Bookstore (an ode to Frida Kahlo’s CASA AZUL in East Harlem!

40k In 40 days campaign, lead by Aurora Anaya-Cerda

The ‘40K in 40 days’ campaign will secure the funding necessary to open La Casa Azul Bookstore as a realphysicalretail space! Using the concept of placemaking, La Casa Azul Bookstore aims to create a business that is much more than your average retail store by offering book clubs, author signings, story time for children and a community meeting space. La Casa Azul Bookstore will sell new & used books, coffee, pastries, art, clothing and locally-made cards and gifts. A fresh stock of books by local and Latino writers will help solidify our niche as a purveyor of authors of local and regional interest. La Casa Azul Bookstore will cross-promote with local businesses to highlight the importance of sustainability & buying locally. We will continue to work with area schools and nonprofits to promote literacy in the East Harlem community.

The money raised in the ‘

40K in 40 days’ campaign will guarantee a MATCHING investment from a generous donor. You give a dollar – the donor gives a dollar. Just like that, the impact of your contribution is immediately doubled! Your contribution to the ‘40K in 40 days’ campaign automatically makes you a member of the Founder’s Circle and your name is added to the donor wall. In addition, there are perks for the different contribution levels, plus the satisfaction of knowing you participated in the opening of independent bookstore in El Barrio!

The money raised will be used to purchase inventory, bookshelves, fixtures, café equipment and pay for permits. Most importantly, it will secure the deposit on a retail space and allow for La Casa Azul Bookstore to open its doors in 2012.

Sounds exciting, right? It is! But, again, I need your help to get this project off the ground. Every dollar donated to the ‘40K in 40 days’ campaign will have twice the impact! That’s because until October 24, 2011 a generous donor will match, dollar for dollar, every donation we receive – up to a total of $40,000.

REAL LIFE ISSUES: ART SHOW
OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9TH / 6-10PM
LOCATION: FOUNDATION, INC - 172, NORFOLK STREET, NEW YORK
A lot has been said about this recently, but it is an unavoidable issue. Mexico is going through a period that is the result of a long social instability. Although this has a general social implication, particularly affects each region of the country in a different manner. This is part of a multifaceted reality, that involves each one of its layers and supplies a broad scenario, providing context for everyday life and its issues. Based on this, artistic projects can be developed in a period of reformulation and expansion of the current artistic environment. This has taken the individual artistic process into areas that have aspects in common and that link social, political and economic circumstances in a very implicit manner.
This exhibition offers an individual artists perspective on the issues of their daily environment and circumstance, such as politics, cultural symbolic values, issues of power and sex and doses of humor, among others. The exhibition features emerging Mexican artists, whose artistic processes consist of a mixtures of unconventional and traditional mediums such as painting, drawing and engraving, as well as object and photography installations. Some of the work has been part of previous shows and some has been exclusively created for this exhibition. The exhibit design will be an installation in situ.
